FAQs

  • What does the lincoln memorial symbolize?

It's hard not to feel in awe when approaching the monument with such a majestic and towering presence. Modeled after the Greek Parthenon the design evokes Lincoln's fight to preserve democracy. The 36 columns were created to represent the 36 unified states that existed in the US when Lincoln was assassinated.
  • What is the history of the lincoln memorial?

Soon after Lincoln's tragic assassination in 1865 there were many calls to commemorate this historic President. It wasn't until early in the 20th century that Congress passed legislation to allocate the funds for the project. In 1922 the memorial finally officially opened with the son of Abraham Lincoln in attendance.
