One of the nation’s largest races is also a treasured Washington DC tradition, steeped in patriotic pride as much as awesome athleticism. Join 30,000 of the world’s greatest athletes for the 40th Anniversary of “The People’s Marathon†this October!
The Marine Corps Marathon 40th Anniversary CelebrationAs the 4th largest in the U.S. and 9th largest in the world, few marathons draw the crowds and international attention of this annual event. Celebrating its 40th Anniversary in 2015, the Marine Corps Marathon brings a full weekend of festivities to Washington DC.
Race StatisticsThis year, upwards of 30,000 runners from all 50 states and 54 countries will compete on one of the most scenic courses in the world, graced with iconic American landmarks. Affectionately known as “The People’s Marathon,†the race begins promptly at 7:55am on Sunday, October 25th.
About the CourseOfficially certified by USA Track and Field, the 26.2-mile course changes slightly each year, but always begins on Route 110 in Arlington, Virginia. From there it heads through Rosslyn, crosses the Key Bridge into Georgetown, passes the Lincoln Memorial, National Mall, Washington Monument, Smithsonian museums, and the US Capitol reflecting pool, before heading back to Virginia for the Pentagon, Arlington National Cemetery, and the finish line at the Marine Corps Memorial.
A Weekend of EventsIn addition to the marathon, there’s a simultaneous 10K (6.2 miles), with the MCM Finish Festival treating runners to free beer and live entertainment from 8am-4pm on the day of the race. Earlier in the weekend, the Health & Fitness Expo is free and open to the public on Friday and Saturday, with complimentary massages, food samples, and 200+ vendors at Walter E. Washington Convention Center, less than two miles from our hotel.
